Are you eligible for a 485 Post Graduate Visa?

DLM Migration and our certified network of lawyers are experts in the Australian Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) which is a temporary visa that allows international students who have recently graduated from an Australian university or college to stay and work in Australia for a period of time. There are two streams of the 485 visa:

  • Graduate Work stream: This stream is for international students who have graduated with a qualification that is relevant to specific occupations that Australia needs. The visa allows you to stay in Australia for 18 months and work full-time or part-time.

  • Post-Study Work stream: This stream is for international students who have graduated with any degree from an Australian university or college. The visa allows you to stay in Australia for between 2 to 4 years after you have finished your studies. Applicants with a select degree may be eligible for an extended 2 years on their visa.

The eligibility requirements for the 485 visa include:

  • You must have graduated from an Australian university or college with a valid student visa.

  • Your degree must be relevant to an occupation that Australia needs.

  • You must have a good English language proficiency score.

  • You must have enough money to support yourself and your family while you are in Australia.

With DLM Migration the processing time for the 485 visa is usually around 3 months.

From 1 July 2023, some holders of subclass 485 Temporary Graduate visas will be allowed to stay in Australia for a longer period. Applicants with a select degree that is in an area of verified skills shortage may be eligible for an extended 2 years on their visa.

If you are an international student who is interested in staying and working in Australia after graduation, the 485 visa is a good option for you. It can help you gain valuable work experience in Australia and potentially lead to a permanent residency visa.

I hope this helps!
